Growing Stronger
Review by Elizabeth Flansburg "liza731" : Amazing! 5 Star

In 3 words: A must read! How do you find the courage to gather up your address books and call everyone you might have hurt in the past to ask for forgiveness? By striving to become a better human being everyday. It is in this quest that we find the author and through her journey, we reflect on our own lives. In short:What I am curious about: Who was the man that hit her ego, left her without notice and she found in a restaurant with another woman? What I wish I never knew: that she thought she could buy people. However, I admire her honesty and strength because you have to be very strong to realize that you were wrong, admitting it publicly and then redeeming yourself.Bummer: her relationship with Fernando Colunga should have been addressed in more than 2 sentences. (I want to know why they ended!!)Surprising: She is Agoraphobic (like me) The most romantic: the courtship described with Tommy Mottola and the narration of how they decided to live together. Comic: How she got in and out of the limousine with her wedding dress and how she kissed the doctor who gave her an epidural injection. The sweetest moment: How Tommy tenderly took care of her when she was almost in a vegetative state. Honest: She reveals what Tommy Mottola's biggest regret is. What Thalia feels most guilty about: the kidnapping of her sistersThings this book has in common with Ernestina's "Libranos del Mal": I was moved while reading it. Felt sorrow, compassion, happiness and laughed. They were both very deep books.About the book:She lived in a haunted house. Her first encounter with pure evil was through a group of children. At least twice she felt she was dying but she came back to life. In this book we find that throughout her life, facing every obstacle has made her stronger. She has survived so much, she is determined to enjoy every moment of life. This book is the accounts of the soap opera she had to live in real life. I love the way Thalia describes the places from her childhood to a point where one can vividly imagine it, taste it, smell it, feel it. I also like very much the fact that every chapter begins with a letter that reflects what she learned on that chapter. The first chapter's letter is for La Llorona (she is no longer afraid - of looking evil in the eye), the second to Fame (now it will be in her own terms) , the third, to freedom (she finally got it), Love, forgiveness, freedom and faith are the rest of the letters along with the ever precious letter she wrote for her daughter Sabrina. The book includes comic, dramatic, romantic and even terrifying moments which makes it a good read regardless of what you are looking for in a book.Whatever it is, you'll find it here and then some. It is even faith affirming! You also learn how to forgive with sincerity and how to be free of your fears and anxieties. After reading this book,I see Thalia as a walking miracle knowing that the fact that she breathes, talks and enchant us with her singing is the most precious gift. Ultimately, this book makes you understand the value of life.
